Vietnam's dichotomy
Article Abstract:
Several significant social, political and economic differences have emerged between North and South Vietnam mainly due to past foreign involvement and better living conditions in the South. Southerners are open and adventurous while northerners are conservative and thrifty. Southerners adapt more easily to free market economics as the South first introduced the reforms currently being implemented and propels the country's economic development. It is unlikely that these differences would lead to conflict but future political turmoil in the South is foreseen.

Out of the black: Vietnam moves closer to genuine currency market
Article Abstract:
The creation of two foreign exchange agencies in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, reflects the country's move towards free enterprise. The business sector, however, is experiencing problems with banks that refuse to sell at rates mandated by the centers due to lack of available reserves. On the other hand, the banks have to deal with competition from companies that were privileged enough to secure lower rates from the central bank. Fluctuation of dong rates is another problem that the central bank has to deal with to halt inflation.
