War and paper peace in Sudan
Article Abstract:
The 14 year civil war in Sudan may come to an end if the rebels agree to talks proposed by the government. Faced with a stronger rebel force, allied with Ethiopia, the government proposed talks. The government's image is benefiting from the refusal of rebel leader John Garang to talk with government negotiators.

Coming out of the cold
Article Abstract:
Since the Sep 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the US, there have been some signs that Sudan may be moving away from its isolation and extremism. Sudan has co-operated with the US on fighting terrorism, but it must still solve many internal problems, including a civil war and human-rights issues.

Uncomfortable neighbours
Article Abstract:
The Sudanese government used a Ugandan military force against the Sudanese rebels. The rebels have been fighting the Islamic government in Sudan since 1983, but are not working very hard at their rebellion. There is also infighting among the rebels.
