Pres Clinton's decision to host Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams on St Patrick's Day and allow him to raise funds in the US has angered and baffled the British, since the Irish unification question is much more important to the UK than the US. British relations have become unimportant to the US.

The current close relations between Britain and the US seem to reflect the commonality of interests between both country's heads of state, Tony Blair and US Pres Bill Clinton. While the two men share much of the same political philosophy, Britain is far left of the US on most issues.
