When the bubble bursts
Article Abstract:
Internet enthusiasts have shown very strong interest in the shares of Internet companies, especially Amazon.com, America Online and Yahoo!. Amazon.com saw its shares rise by 966% in value in 1998, followed by a further rise of 150% between the beginning of Dec 1998 and early Jan 1999. This trend is hard to explain, especially given that even Amazon.com itself admits that it will be some years before it makes any profit at all. Some observers believe that Internet shares could eventually experience a significant slump.

Why Internet shares will fall
Article Abstract:
The Internet will have a significant impact on business and on leisure activities in the future. However, it is unlikely that the companies currently heavily involved in establishing the Internet will ever make the very large profits required to justify their present share prices. It is possible to argue that shares in general are overvalued, particularly in the US. There are even more difficulties associated with Internet shares, which even experts cannot value.

Bursts of inspiration
Article Abstract:
Data gathered by NASA's Gamma Ray Observatory satellite as part of the Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) reveal that gamma-ray bursts may be both more periodic and more nearby than previously thought. The BATSE data lend support to the theory that violent star collapses cause gamma ray bursts.
