Who's Rupert eyeing now?
Article Abstract:
BSkyB is in merger talks with Canal Plus, and a merger would allow the new company to spread its costs and keep down prices for rights to movies and sport. The market is too small for both companies to perform well. Rupert Murdoch holds a 40% stake in BSkyB which would drop to 25% in the new company. It is unclear whether he wishes to hold such a small stake, since he prefers controlling interests. There could also be regulatory obstacles to a merger.
