Why the 1990-92 recession has been different
Article Abstract:
Recessions in the 1970's and 1980's were blamed on international factors, notably the price of oil. The 1990's recession has occurred, say some observers, because of the liberalisation of the financial market combined with a rigid hold on the supply of money. Credit was freely available and people got into debt. As the UK recession took hold property values fell, jobs were lost and incomes did not increase. 1990-92 is now regarded as the longest recession since the collapse in the 1930's.

Shopping - when the recession recedes
Article Abstract:
The RTPI held its Planning and Environmental Training Conference in London at end May 1993 and there was much discussion of the retail trade. It is generally agreed that out-of-town shopping centres were much favoured as they were seen as easing the congestion of market towns, but urban centres are suffering because of it. Competing with out-of-town sites could result in huge traffic problems for many town centres, which could see a real growth in public transport.

Which Caused More Harm - Recession or Poor Management?
Article Abstract:
There are two opinions as to why Hapag-Lloyd, a German shipping company, has not had profits since 1977. The chairman, Hans Kruse, maintains that oil price increases and worldwide recession caused the losses. Others maintain that Kruse and his strategic planning are at fault. Details about the Hapag-Lloyd crisis are outlined. Financial control has improved recently, although many problems are still unsolved.
