The new school of fishing
Article Abstract:
Commercial fishing in Canada is undergoing major changes, brought about by reduced supply and government interference, resulting in a decrease of revenues by 60%. The once-stable industry suffered a setback when Canadian catches began dwindling in the early 1990s and after a government-imposed cod-moratorium in 1992. Many fish processing plants in the area have made the transition from being cod and salmon fishers to shellfishers, secondary processors, marketers and distributors of crabs and other seafoods. However, salmon supply is rising with the introduction of aquaculture.
