Southern culture seems to be increasingly influential in American life, from blues music, to powerful southern politicians, to the memories and writings of William Faulkner. Sep 1997 marks the 100th anniversary of Faulkner's birth, and one of his legacies is a southern studies center in Oxford, MS.
