With help from a hidden hand
Article Abstract:
Mercer Street Friends and Inner change are examples of faith-based groups involved in social work in the US. They tackle problems such as illiteracy, poverty and drug addiction, and claim to be more efficient than secular institutions. Politicians have come to regard them more favorably. Critics argue that state help fr faith-based groyuos could involve discrimination against employees of faiths other than those favored by the organization in question, and that less funding will be available for clients not wanting faith-based help if more funds go to faith-based groups.

Estimating her bequest
Article Abstract:
Diana, Princess of Wales, was able to use media interest in her life in order to publicise charities. Since her death there has been a ban on landmines, with the media using her memory to persuade governments to back a cause that she supported. The memorial fund set up in her name has raised or received pledges for 83 million pounds sterling. Donations to the fund are dropping, and some charities that she supported have had a difficult year. Her memory is cherished, but this does not always translate into donations.

Love or money
Article Abstract:
The non-profit sector may provide goods and services, and may involve campaigning and religious groups. The sector has grown most rapidly where there are high levels of spending on social welfare, and some non-profit organizations use public funds. They can be innovative and flexible, but may not always serve consumers well. Finding good managers may be difficult, and lack of training can be a problem. There is still prestige attached to working in the sector, which could increase in the future.
