Working up a sweat: Petroleum Authority of Thailand polishes its act
Article Abstract:
The Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) is anxious for privatization because of its need for capital investment in order to expand and remain competitive. PTT is preparing for this eventuality through the reorganization of its subsidiaries. Its business operations have been divided into five to allow for greater maneuverability. For its part, the Thai government has lessened its restraints on PTT to give it independence and operational handling flexibility. In return for this degree of autonomy, PTT has to improve productivity by 2% annually, produce a 6% return on assets yearly and limit personnel expenditure to 20% of the budget.

The committee's plans have considered the medical advantages of legalizing prostitution and the devising of corporate guidelines to deal with infected employees without discriminating against them. Coast of good hope: Thailand's Eastern Seaboard plan yields results
Article Abstract:
The opening of Thailand's Laem Chabang port marks the successful beginning of the Eastern Seaboard Development plan. The port facility at Laem Chabang will accommodate vessels carrying near 3,000 teu and will lower traffic pressure on the Klong Toey port. The Eastern Seaboard also plans to develop Maptaphut as an industrial region including steel plants, car-assembly and motor-parts factories. The new Thailand PM Chuan Leekpai has also encouraged the Eastern Seaboard program despite problems regarding the development of transport connections and public facilities in the region.
