FRANCE/US: GEMPLUS, VISA JOIN FORCES
Article Abstract:
Based on today's SIM Toolkit technologies (before the introduction of the SIM Open Platform chip which will support dynamic downloading of payment applications), Gemplus and Visa have teamed up to offer safe payment services over wireless telephone networks. Before the end of 2000, GSM operators and banks should be able to offer securitised services based on a Visa card, from a mobile phone terminal.

World: SIM card market predictions by SchlumbergerSema
Article Abstract:
SchlumbergerSema, which turned over US$ 176mn in SIM cards during the second quarter of 2001, only thanks to the consolidation of CP8 (bought from Bull), otherwise the company would have recorded a 20% decline, remains optimistic. After a stable year in 2001 compared with 2000, SIM cards should return to a 14% growth with 500mn units produced world-wide in 2002 instead of 440mn, SchlumbergerSema believes.
