A vehicle for change
Article Abstract:
Rover Group conceived the development of a centralized design and engineering centre in 1992. Site works began on the Gaydon, Warwickshire, England, site in 1995, and Rover occupied the complex in 1996. Rover specified its key requirements and allowed the architects and engineers to develop the best solutions to concepts, including daylight maximization, security, and car development time reductions. The architect, structural engineer and services engineer give accounts of their part in the building construction, costs are analysed, and an architectural expert appraises the finished product.

Retrospective vision of the future
Article Abstract:
The Future Systems exhibition at the ICA in London features projects that move between art and engineering, nature and technology and inspirational forms and constructional realities. In its early days the practice restricted its output to visionary schemes, offering a more satisfying alternative to the High-Tech style. The change from visionary schemes to real projects is reflected in the flattening out of smooth, double-curved streamlined forms, into two-dimensional profiles or extruded sections.
