World's wild catch rises to 93m tonnes

The statistics of the wild fish catch worldwide is given along with rankings of top countries in the sector. The ranking of top 30 species in fish is also presented. There is an overall growth in wild fish catch globally despite the efforts made by several environmental groups.

A new record of $55.2 billion in earnings has been attained in the world seafood trade. A drop in 2002's total world catch from 95 to 92 million tonnes was reported, but fisheries' employment remains stable.
