Yukos case fuels legal fears

Arrests and interrogations of lawyers defending Russian oil company OAO NK Yukos against charges brought by President Vladimir Putin's government, are raising concerns regarding the ability of defense lawyers to practice free of government interference when representing politically unpopular clients. The Russian court system and concerns regarding judicial misconduct are discussed.

GM venture in Russia hits a snag
Article Abstract:
Production at an automobile plant in Russia has been halted because it was seized by Russian authorities. The car plant is a joint venture between General Motors Corp. of the United States and P/O AvtoVaz of Russia. Delivery of automobile parts by P/O AvtoVaz was halted, saying the company was not being paid enough for them.
