Europe sees limits on growth

Economists trim their estimated forecasts of European economic growth. A slowing down in the rate of economic recovery among the 12 European Union nations using the euro could lead to rising inflation and increase in interest rates from the European Central Bank. In such a case, i nvestment and employment rates would in turn suffer.

Germany's outlook improves

Germany saw business sentiment increase for the fourth straight month in August 2003. The news bolstered hopes that Germany would come out of recession. Business sentiment increased to 90.8 from 89.3 in July on the German Ifo business-climate index.
