Zastava plant shows extent of wounds crippling Yugoslavia
Article Abstract:
Zastava Automobili DD plant reflects the magnitude of the damages that have prevented Yugoslavia from overcoming the effects of war. The factory has been suffering shortages and foul-ups that has left the facility idle and silent and 9,000 workers on compulsory vacation. When Yugoslavia broke apart, Zastava lost a huge portion of its market and also most of its core distributors. In addition, the international sanction on Serbia in 1992 almost spelled the demise of Zastava. The company realizes that it needs a saviour from outside the country that would help in its recovery, But Zastava also realizes that nobody is willing to enter a country mired in political , what with the country mired in political crisis.

Foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) have agreed to impose new economic sanctions on Serbia for its extensive house-burning and random artillery attacks on whole villages. The EU has also post a warning of more-harsh sanctions unless Belgrade unbends in its fight to crush separatist insurgency among Kosovo's ethic Albanian population. The sanction calls for freezing Serbian state assets overseas and blocking new investments in Serbia. In addition to the EU sanction, the US government announced that it impose economic sanctions on Yugoslavia.
