Zero-based celebrations
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom and the Vatican are planning extensive celebrations for the millennium, but most other countries are placing less importance on the year 2000. China has imported the Roman calendar, so it is less significant for many people than the Chinese calendar. Many Asian countries are more concerned about economic survival than celebrations. The year 1000 was not seen as especially important in Europe, though 1033 was, since it was a thousand years after the death of Christ.
