Worst may be over
Article Abstract:
The Royal Institute of British Architects' (RIBA) survey of architects' workload for the 4th qtr, 1992 shows signs of a recovery from recession. Although generally work levels are still low, there has been little decline in new comissions during the period except in housing. Commercial work is expected to recover first but at present the level of new commissions is stable. Late payment continues to be of concern but generally, architects were more optimistic than in the previous quarter's survey.

Pension crisis? What pension?
Article Abstract:
The research on professional architects to find the true state of their pension planning showed that some architects would receive just half the income they seem to be expecting. Results showed that almost 40% in private practice told the researchers that they had little confidence about their saving enough for retirement while more than 50% of the respondents overestimated the level of pension they should expect from their pension savings.
