Catic Shenzhen, a H-share company in producing and marketing timepieces, liquid crystal displays (LCD), printed circuit boards (PCB) and cable TV equipment and moulds, plans to expand its local and overseas markets, including Hong Kong, China, Europe, U.S, France, Germany, Austria and Israel.. in spite of facing profit growth slowdown in the second half 1998. It is setting up distribution networks in US and Europe. The company will highlight the business of LCD and PCB. The company is making effort on LCDs for mobile phones and multi-coloured LCDs. It also plans to take stake on Tian Jun which is a LCD producer and distributor. It has invested RMB17.18 mn in Shennan Circuit for a higher earnings. Shennan Circuit has 30% of profit from PCB operations. *

Barco and Samsung launch high-res 28in LCD

Barco View of Belgium has partnered with Samsung Electronics of South Korea to develop the high-resolution 28in flat-panel, thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD), named Isis, for air traffic control and defense applications. The display is claimed to be the largest TFT-LCD available with the highest resolution in terms of pixel count, though it has a relatively small footprint. With such specifications, the Isis display would fit well into horizontal conference consoles in warship operations rooms or other military command centers.

BELGIUM: B&O CO-OPERATES WITH BELGACOM

Bang & Olufsen (B&O), the Danish producer of audio and video equipment, has signed an agreement with Belgacom, the Belgian telephony operator, about the distribution of telephones via Belgacom's more than 100 stores. In addition, B&O has its own network of stores in Belgium. So far, B&O has signed distribution agreements with several European operators such as Deutsche Telecom, Tele Danmark, the Dutch company KPN, and now also Belgacom.
