Hong Kong's bank customers are being told to withdraw their ringgit dollars as their deposits will become worthless after Malaysia authority begins foreign exchange control, from 1 October 1998, Before, 8 September 1998, ringgit deposits could be withdrawn in Hong Kong dollars at 1 ringgit to HK$1.935. ( 4 ringgit to US$1 ), compared with offical forex rate of 3.8 ringgit to US$1 from 1 October. In addition, customers face no limitation for ringgit deposit withdrawals or conversion to Hong Kong dollars deposits. *

Macau airport cuts fees in skies battle
Article Abstract:
The Macau International Airport announced to cut night landing fee by 50% to US$1,291 from 20 June 1998 owing to anticipation of increased competition from Hong Kong's new Chek Lap Kok Airport to be opened in July. Passenger departure charge for all air travellers who continue their journey from the airport within 24 hours of arrival will also be reduced by between 80 patacas and 130 patacas per adult passenger, depending on destination. *
