A modest crop of P's
Article Abstract:
UK automobile sales tend to rise in Aug each year when the registration letter is changed. Companies make around a quarter of their yearly profit from selling new cars in a single month. The rise in sales for Aug 1996 may not be as great as expected. Cowie Group reported a 16% rise on 1995 for Aug 1996, focusing on private customers rather than car fleet concerns. Caverdale reported a 5% rise for Aug 1996, and Charles Sidney has reported a marginal growth in sales.

Car dealers flex muscles
Article Abstract:
Large UK car dealers are raising funds for expansion. Dixon Motors and Reg Vardy have both announced rights issues. Automobile manufacturers are using distributors covering large geographical areas which involves more investment by dealers. European Union (EU) rules on links between manufacturers and dealers have prompted this change, since manufacturers will have less control over dealers and aim to ensure the dealers they select are able to build up strength.
