ABL successful, 'pathfinder for directed energy'
Article Abstract:
The Airborne Laser (ABL) program, developing a laser system aboard a Boeing 747 capable of knocking down enemy missiles in their boost phase of flight, is proving successful, and is also leading the way for directed-energy weapons in 2006. As a directed-energy system and as an airborne system, ABL is uniquely able to address all classes of ballistic missiles in the boost phase and the program has enjoyed two good years of success.
