Amec has suffered a loss on a contract following a dispute with Agip, but the payment made after an agreement between the two companies will get rid of Amec's debts. Amec is aiming for large projects in the UK but the success of this policy will depend on the performance of the UK government's private finance initiative.Amec is also seeking contracts abroad in order to diversify away from the UK where deamnd is low. The company's housing division reported a profit of 300,000 pounds sterling for 1st half 1995.
