After price complaints, DOD works with Contractors on costs

The Department of Defense, after years of complaining about high prices on some platforms, is responding to realities of tight budget times by working with contractors to trim costs and streamline program. Hence, a partnering agreement between the Army and Boeing to re-manufacture 513 CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters promises to pay big dividends for the Army Colonel William 'Tim' Crosby, project manager for the service's Cargo Helicopter Program.

A supplemental appropriation for fiscal 2006 would be beyond the $419.3 billion of Department of Defense (DOD) fiscal 2006 budget, which the administration sent to Congress on February 7, 2005. On February 14, 2005, Bush sent to Congress a supplemental request of $75 billion for fiscal 2005 to pay for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
