The fourth- and seventh-largest defense contractors have reported soaring profits, while sales have advanced very slowly during January through March 2005. General Dynamics Corp. has reported that its net profits jumped to 24.9 percent to $336 million and the United Technologies Corp. has announced that its net income has increased 18.4 percent to $651 million in the first quarter of 2005.

Pentagon programs yield profits: General Dynamics net up 11.3 percent in first quarter

The net profits of General Dynamics Corp. which is the fourth-largest defense contractor rose with 11.3 percent in the first three months of 2006, with respect to Pentagon procurement programs. It is reported that profits rose to $374 million from $336 million in the same quarter as net sales rose 16 percent to $5.57 billion from $4.8 billion.

General Dynamics Corp. has reported a robust growth in the fourth quarter in 2005. The fourth-quarter earnings from continuing operations reached $406 million, whereas the net income rose 20.8% and for all of 2005, the earnings from continuing operations rose 22% to $1.47 billion.
