Airgas Inc (ARG) acquired Northern Gases, Newkirk Sales Co, Arrow-Weldit Sales & Engineering, and part of F.H. Bathke, reaffirming its position as the leading distributor of specialty, medical and industrial gases. ARG had earlier acquired 55 firms, within 27 months. Such takeovers are in line with the company's network expansion strategies, which had increased revenues from $8 million in 1982 to $322 million in 1992. For FY 1992, earnings per share had increased by 20%, from 67 to 75 cents. Stock price for a 52-week range rose from 13 3/4 to 24 3/4.
