Article Abstract:
GEOMET Technologies Inc., Germantown, Md., is being awarded a firm-fixed-price contract (appropriation number and dollar value will be issued with eachdelivery order), with a cumulative total of $37,000,000. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Technical Escort Units (TEU), Ammunition Handlers, and Chemical Surety Activity personnel engaged in special operations in Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) environments will wear the Self-contained Toxic Environment Protective Outfit (STEPO), which is a totally encapsulating protective ensemble for protection against chemical/biological agents, missile/rocket fuels, petroleum, oils and lubricants (POLS) and industrial chemicals. The ensemble incorporates a National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved self-contained breathing apparatus (with a tether/emergency breathing apparatus option), a battery powered cooling system and a hands-free communications system. The system will be used during peacetime and wartime conditions. Work will be performed in Gaithersburg,Md., and is expected to be completed by June 30, 2002. This is a sole source contract initiated on Feb. 10, 1998. The contracting activity is the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Command, Natick, Mass. (DAAN02-98-D-5005).

Work will be performed in Oakland Park, Fla., and is expected to be completed by July 6, 1999. Of the total contract funds, $5,573,715 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
