Being big isn't everything
Article Abstract:
Contrasting ratings have been given to shares in BP Amoco and Zotefoams, companies that share a common history, with Zotefoams part of BP's chemicals arm until the early 1990s. Zoetfoams is facing major capital spending when it builds a production plant in the US in 2000, whereas BP is undertaking cost cutting, identifying $2.4 billion of cost savings a year. However Zotefoams has a strong position in its market, large profit margins, un unstrained balance sheet and the ability to generate much cash.

Hong Kong: stay bullish
Article Abstract:
A trade agreement between China and Hong Kong should help financial markets in Hong Kong, according to Merrill Lynch. Trade sanctions are avoided and China becomes further integrated into world markets. The development of China should provide opportunities for companies from Hong Kong. Real estate and bank earnings could strengthen in Hong Kong. There should also be an increase in rates of investment in Hong Kong from the US. Looser monetary policy in China would also benefit Hong Kong.
