'Better Driving' Incentive Schemes Boost Profits
Article Abstract:
The principle of better driving is being directed toward company fleets. In the United Kingdom, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RSPA) has worked from a moral standpoint for years to promote better driving habits. Now they are marketing safety to companies as a financial benefit. They estimate a savings of 3,318 million pounds a year in industry due to defensive driving. Commercial drivers are high risk due to the number of hours on the road. Defensive driving, unselfish driving, means fewer accidents, lower insurance premiums, lower gas consumption, less wear and tear, and fewer repair hours. Conoco is used as an example. A chart lists costs and savings for defensive driving training. Driving awards can have a positive effect - enough to motivate further training and compliance to standard. Twenty guidelines to prevention of accidents are listed.
