Bio-ontologies -- fast and furious
Article Abstract:
Bioontologies clarify scientific discussions by providing the shared vocabulary for biotechnologists to communicate their results effectively, to explore data and to extend scientific investigations. They are shared community resources, their continued development an incorporation in bioinformatics and biocomputational systems supports the integration of scientific information and facilitates knowledge discovery.

Are the current ontologies in biology good ontologies?
Article Abstract:
A study shows that within biology the enthusiasm for ontologies are accompanied by a general lack of awareness of what exactly ontologies are and how to use them. This lack of awareness is reflected in the fact that many 'bio-ontologies' fail to follow international standards for ontology design and description, which places a serious restriction on their applicability to knowledge sharing, reuse and inference.

Overhauling the PDB
Article Abstract:
The reformed database design of Brookhaven Protein Data Bank (PDB) is unable to meet the standards and principles of relational database design. The reengineered PDB fails to meet many ontological demands and is full of drawbacks such as repetition of data, redundancy and inconsistency.
