Biomechanical exploration on dynamic modes of lifting
Article Abstract:
A study to determine the dynamic of lifting weights was conducted. Three types of lifting tasks were explored; specifically, slow lifting without breaks, rapid lifting without breaks and lifting with a break at midposition. Five experienced workers participated in this study. Results indicate that slower lifting without breaks are the safest for moderately heavy loads. Lifting with breaks or interruptions at any level increase the chances for muscular exertion.

Determination of the effect of lift characteristics on dynamic performance profiles during manual materials handling tasks
Article Abstract:
Many workers continue to be required to handle objects manually despite tremendous technological innovations in the industrial workplace and the increasing automation of jobs. This creates significant potential for human injury. A study used inferential statistics to evaluate the effect of lift characteristics on phase-dependent and phase-independent variability in human performance. Results of the study are discussed.

Effects of symmetry and load absorption of a falling load on 3D trunk muscular moments
Article Abstract:
Epidemiological data indicates that the physical causes of low back pain can be ascribed to sudden muscular exertion at the time of an accident. Asymmetrical conditions cause extra muscular exertion for trunk muscles, mainly the trunk extensors and lateral flexors. Training for load absorption is necessary for reducing the risk of injuries.
