Black hole or new galaxy?
Article Abstract:
There are risks involved in investments in satellite technology, as is shown by the explosion of a rocket with 12 Globalstar satellites over Kazakhstan in September 1998. Satellite technology has potential in linking parts of the globe for mobile phone users who could otherwise be unable to communicate. There are high costs in the industry and accidents can lead to serious financial problems. Changes in technology may also affect forecasts. Retail investors are beginning to return after a stock price fall for companies in the industry.

Indonesian boost
Article Abstract:
Alvis faces cuts in defense budgets and fierce competition in the market for defense companies but has been awarded a major contract from Indonesia for armored vehicles. Alvis' operating profit dropped in 1995 to 1996 and could fall again in 1997 to 1998 but the company has enough confirmed and potential orders to achieve an annual profit of 13 million pounds sterling for five years, analysts forecast. Alvis may encounter problems over the longer term but has cash resources and the company's shares appear undervalued.
