Burning the midnight oil
Article Abstract:
The UK government and the European Union are at war over the Working Time Directive's 48-hour working week limit and UK is well known for having the longest working hours in the EU, the only member state to allow every worker to opt out of the 48-hour limit. However, a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development survey of 750 long-hours workers found that over three-quarters of respondents signed the opt-out clause out of choice rather than employer pressure.
