Small and medium is big
Article Abstract:
Small and medium firms in South Africa have problems with raising capital and borrowing to expand due to the banks' aversion to risk. These companies are major employers in the South African economy and more smaller firms would list on the stock market if a restructuring were carried out and disclosure standards were inexpensive. An informal sector is developing with black Friendly Society equivalents providing funds. Franchises are also becoming increasingly important.
