CBO: Defense outlays flat to up 50 percent by 2016

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has outlined that the defense outlays will be little changed to up almost 50 percent by 2016. The CBO report indicates that overall defense outlays will amount to almost $5 trillion over the decade and thus the fiscal pressures on discretionary programs, such as military procurement, might intensify during the period.

Globalization of defense industry well advanced

Congress and Pentagon leaders will decrease the budget for weapons acquisition, leading to purchase of weapons from abroad. But many lawmakers want the US government to use US taxpayers dollars to purchase weapons systems and other items from the US based defense contractors.
