Cheap, but don't bet the house: Ostensibly, the flotation of William Hill gives investors a cheap way of investing in a pure bookmaker
Article Abstract:
William Hill of the UK, a bookmaker, is to float on the Stock Exchange soon, and current owners Nomura and the bookmaker's directors are expected to be the real winners from the flotation. Nomura is offering its entire 227.6m shares in William Hill for sale, and William Hill itself is likely to raise around 120 million pounds sterling through the issue of 72.4m shares, which it use to reduce net debt. Trading in William Hill shares may be volatile offering little for investors to compare it with.

BS: gone to the dogs
Article Abstract:
BS is a UK company involved in real estate, health clubs and greyhound racing which has a poor track record. The company was run by the Kerman family and acquired a restaurant chain, Scott's, which did not perform well as an investment. The family sold their stake after acrimony arose over the acquisition. The stake was acquired by the Jumabhoy family. The company runs markets which have been hit by car boot sales and an increased number of stores opening on Sundays.
