Christmas comes early
Article Abstract:
UK share prices could continue to rise in Dec 1996. Prices tended not to improve in Dec during the 1920s and 1930s, but this month has seen better results in more recent times. Profits records for the 2nd half of Dec tend to be good which provides protection in bear markets and helps push up prices in bull markets. The reaction of UK financial institutions to the Budget could adversely affect share prices. Price trends during the three days after a Budget can indicate longer term trends.

The next big move will be down
Article Abstract:
Historical trends can give insights into the likely performance of the UK stock market. A bear market has been associated with share price falls in August, while a bull market is associated with price rises in that month. When share prices drop in September at the time of a bear market the fall tends to be a large one. The worse day for trading has been Sep 26. Little help can be expected from Wall Street since US share prices tend to perform worst in Sep.
