Reality bites bosses' pay: the discredited pay policies of the privatised utilities could signal the end of the gravy train for UK plc
Article Abstract:
There is continued emphasis on the pay of the privatised utility bosses and a study shows that the top director's pay at Amersham, the drugs group, has nearly quadrupled since its privatisation in February 1982. However the 660,000 pounds sterling plus salary of BT chairman Sir Iain Vallance is unlikely to increase much as it is on a par with comparable directors. John Hoerner, chief executive of Burtons believes that companies should pay the global going rate.
