Federal agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Department of Labor are focusing on investigating cases of improper employment testing. GE general counsel Lorene Schaefer, meanwhile, has filed a sex discrimination case against the company. The settlement of a race discrimination case between the EEOC a nd Walgreen Co., and other legal matters are discussed.

In companies where stress is laid on performance many a times the younger workers manage the employees who are older to them. A study conducted in 1998 revealed that the companies, which had large variable stock returns, had lesser women as board of directors and also the firms with more diverse boards had more board meetings and more pay for performance incentives for the directors
