Defense outlays to tumble, reaching pre-9/11 levels
Article Abstract:
The US defense spending, as a percentage of economic output will decline over five years as of 2006 to the level that existed before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The Pentagon leaders announced that the defense budget would rise 7 percent in fiscal 2007 over the enacted fiscal 2006 level, but when war costs and one year's inflation effects are removed, the percentage increase is only half that amount.
