House panel slashes DD(X) program, seeks more subs
Article Abstract:
The furious debate over the forthcoming DD(X) destroyer and which companies would build it for the Navy, an issue that seemed settled last year, roared back to life on Capitol Hill as a plan advanced that might kill all but two of the ships in 2006. It happened in a session of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) projection forces subcommittee, as it marked up, or wrote, its section of the Department of Defense authorization bill for the fiscal year ending September 2007.
