Don't Let Planners Meddle with Your Strategy

Corporate planners, the darlings of the 1960s, have seen their heyday. The lesson for the 1980s is to keep your long-range objectives plain and simple. Some should expect to see very brief statements in a corporate plan. The corporate plan should be done by the top executives assisted by a planner. The planning team should agree upon three major questions: the corporate objectives, the company's strengths and weaknesses and an appraisal of future events. Then a set of strategies will emerge.
