Economies of scale in dairy marketing cooperatives in Kenya
Article Abstract:
Dairy marketing cooperatives have had a large contribution to rural development in Kenya. These cooperatives transport milk to members and also perform other services. An analysis of the structure and performance of the cooperatives suggests that there are significant economies of scale associated with cooperative services. The cooperatives are expected to minimize their cost of operations to remain competitive as the country moves toward the privatization of the dairy industry.
