Effects of operator expertise and verbal reports on temporal data: supervision of a long time-lag process (blast furnace)
Article Abstract:
Verbal reports of experts and beginners are assessed with respect to their temporal content during a blast furnace malfunction. Expertise fails to influence the basic information processing mechanism but it affects the type of information processed. Although temporal aspects are significant for the task, expertise has no effect on the contents namely dates, periods, orders, and evolutions in the supervision process. Data shows that similar support and training is desirable for all operators irrespective of their level of expertise.
