Empowering the inventor: The case of monoclonal antibodies
Article Abstract:
Monoclonal antibodies, developed in 1975, were commercialized through a diverse range of intellectual property (IP) strategies, including open access, academic ownership and corporate/institutional IP ownership. The UK's University of Cambridge's enlightened position of the granting academics ownership of IP rights not only galvanized antibody research but also, in at least one case, enabled inventors to rescue a promising product.

Flexibility: The guiding principle for antibody manufacturing
Article Abstract:
The companies, in order to ensure that they have adequate antibody manufacturing capacity, should compete for limited resources as they bring their products to market and must develop strategic plans to ensure that they would have adequate raw materials, manufacturing space, personnel and equipment. It is suggested that flexibility should be the guiding principle when developing such plans for antibody production.
