The European domino effect
Article Abstract:
Trends in British stock markets appear to be for cyclical stocks to receive support, while internet, technical and technology stocks are also receiving support. These trends may also be found in mainland Europe, as well as speculation arising from acquisitions and mergers. There could also be volatility in Europe, and news from one stock market could affect another. Interest rates are unlikely to be raised in mainland Europe, since inflation does not appear to be a problem, and the European Central Bank does not appear to be concerned about the drop in value of the euro in relation to the US dollar.

European equities cheap - but not nasty
Article Abstract:
Equities from mainland Europe are much less expensive than US equities, with European PE ratios lower than they have been since 1993. Bond-earnings yield ratios for Europe are 70% below those of 1987, whereas US ratios are near the level recorded prior to the crash in 1987. Some analysts see US stocks as dear rather than European stocks as cheap, while others see the prices of European stocks as reflecting poorer growth prospects. European stocks would be hit if US stocks suffered a severe setback.
