Farm business marketing behavior and strategic groups in agriculture
Article Abstract:
Studies on agricultural management have often overlooked the marketing behavior of farmers. Many farm management specialists have assumed that farmers follow only one pattern of strategic behavior. An analysis of the marketing and strategic behavior of New Zealand intensive crop farmers shows significant differences between farmers' patterns of strategic behavior. There are five general strategies which farmers follow, each of which is suited to their objectives, capabilities and resources. The implications of these results to policymaking are discussed.
