Fight for the rights of nominees
Article Abstract:
UK investors using nominee accounts lose legal ownership of their shares, which affects their rights as shareholders. Nominee accounts are expected to become more common in the UK, affecting most private investors. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has issued a consultation paper on this topic. The DTI is seeking to assess whether the government should change the law to allow shareholders using nominee accounts to retain rights they would have if they held shares directly.
