Going with the tech flow
Article Abstract:
Technology stocks have dropped in value in Britain and the US, and investors may prefer to avoid them. The range of funds specialising in technology companies has increased. The funds are not easy to compare, since they may be classified in different ways. Investors have to make decisions on the geographical weighting they prefer, and assess the approcah of the fund manager. There are venture capital trusts geared toward technology, and well as investment trusts.

Fund performance unzipped
Article Abstract:
Investors should seek unit trusts that have performed in a consistent way since trusts that perform at the top of the league for a brief spell can then see a drop in performance. League tables are not enough to assess performance, since they focus on the past, so give limited clues on possible future trends. Performance snapshots are more useful, and they should refer to discrete periods. Discrete performance data are not always available to private investors, though professional investors can make use of it.
