Gambling on growth
Article Abstract:
Emerging markets are attractive to investors due to their growth potential. The Asian, Latin American and eastern European markets are the most important emerging markets world wide. Asia has performed well, though some analysts see this performance as having peaked, and eastern Europe is seen as having more potential. Latin American markets have been affected by economic restructuring which should help corporate profits and stock prices. Risk levels tend to be high, as well as potential returns.

More ups than downs: the first half of 1995 is already over. Would you believe it? We review what went up, down or sideways and consider why
Article Abstract:
The impact of corporate takeover activity on the UK stock market was less than expected during the first half of 1995. British Aerospace pulled out of bidding for VSEL, the submarine builder, and there were strong gains in some prime takeover candidates such as Thorn EMI and Zeneca. Regional electricity companies (RECs) had been generating cash, buying back their own shares and approving major salary rises for directors, however the RECs were the worst-performing sector by June 1995.

Making a science of an art form
Article Abstract:
Charts can be used to analyse trends in share prices. They have become more popular as personal computers have become more widely used. Charles Dow was a pioneer of charting and he published his ideas in the Wall Street Journal. W.D. Gann was another early technical analyst. Currency markets is one area where charts are applied, as is the money market. The subject has yet to be developed fully, and has to be taken seriously as it has become more scientific.
